Girls on the Run

Girls on the Run

A setting of passages from John Ashbery’s Girls on the Run, a fantasia on the work of artist and writer Henry Darger, this piece is a thoroughly rethought orchestral palimpsest on a 2008 rock-influenced work for baritone saxophones and drum set. While retaining its pop influences, I have crafted an entirely new piece around the original vocal line and harmonies for a small orchestra featuring a group of three solo celli surrounded by an unusual ensemble including low instruments such as tenor recorders, english horns, bass clarinets, horns, and trombones.
